History

Alimak Group was founded in Skellefteå, Sweden 1948 by engineer and technical inventor Alvar Lindmark (1917-1975). Lindmark´s first invention was the mortar mixer. In March 15th, 1948 Lindmark founded his own business, Ingenjörsfirman Alvar N. Lindmark Aktiebolag, that later was renamed to Alimak in 1954. From its inception, Alimak’s business focused on the manufacture and development of industrial elevators, construction hoists and work platforms. The company introduced the first steel construction passenger hoist in 1953 and the first rack-and-pinion mast climbing work platform in 1956.

1962

In 1962, Alimak revolutionized the approach to rack-and-pinion vertical access solutions by introducing the first rack-and-pinion-driven construction hoist.

1968

Between 1968 and 2001, Alimak expanded its geographic footprint and its business operations by enhancing its product and service offerings, growing its customer base across a number of end markets and engaging in a series of strategic acquisitions.

1973

In 1973, Alimak delivered its first rack-and-pinion elevator for the offshore industry.

2001

In 2001, Alimak merged its operations with the Dutch company Hek, which has been producing industrial elevators, construction hoists and work platforms since 1961.

2006

In 2006, Alimak established production operations in China and, to strengthen its U.S. presence, acquired Champion Elevators, a Texas-based rack-and-pinion elevator company.

2007

In 2007, the Group was acquired by Triton. From the beginning of 2008, the Group increased its strategic focus on the BRIC markets, opening sales offices in India and Brazil between 2008 and 2011.

2010

In addition, between 2010 and 2012, the Group engaged in a manufacturing footprint optimization program, consolidating its manufacturing and focusing its manufacturing and supply base to two locations in Skellefteå, Sweden, and Changshu, China.

2014

In May 2014, the Group broadened its technology offering through the acquisition of Heis-Tek, a Norway-based specialized traction elevator company that offers its products and services predominantly for oil and gas offshore applications in the North Sea.

2015

Alimak Group AB was listed on Nasdaq Stockholm in June 2015.

2017

30 January 2017, Alimak acquired Avanti Wind Systems, a market leader in vertical access solutions for wind power industry.

28 February 2017, the Group acquired Facade Access Group, market leader in permanently installed building maintenance solutions.

Through the acquisitions Alimak extends its product range and gains 10 production sites. The turnover and the amount of employees doubled in size and Alimak established a stronger and broader customer offering with global coverage.

2019

2 April, 2019, Alimak Group announced the acquisition of Dataline i Borås AB, which has been an important supplier of control systems for construction hoists and permanent lifts for over two decades. The acquisition follows the Group’s strategy to invest in technologies to enable new, enhanced products and services, to increase productivity and safety for customers.

2020

Alimak Group announced the acquisitions of Verta Corporation, an American service provider with a large share of the portfolio consisting of Manntech units. The acquisition will further strengthens the Group’s standing as the market leading service provider in North America and help grow the After Sales business.

2021

In 2021, Alimak Group acquired the shares of Cento Engineering Group, a UK Façade Access engineering and service provider with a large share of the service portfolio consisting of Manntech units.

2022

In 2022, Alimak Group acquired Tall Crane Equipment, a Canadian hoist and crane rental services provider. In the same year, Tractel, a world leading height safety specialist, was acquired. The acquisition adds a new vertical to the Alimak Group, Height Safety & Productivity Solutions, while broadening the product and service offering within Construction, Facade Access and Wind.
